We are just weeks away from when people will start to get their higher electricty bills. As state Legislators continue to try to point blame at PJM, it’s important to look back at how we really got to this point in order to make informed decisions going forward so we don’t end up in this position again.
We have continued to say at AENJ that we don’t have enough supply to meet demand and that new energy sources NJ government has chosen over proven sources would only make the problem worse. Lets look at what has happened in the last 10 years:
You don’t have to take our word for it. Just look at what Tom Moran was saying when he was running the opinion page for NJ.com as far back as 2022:
Even with those subsidies and billions spent by the state, we still don’t have even one wind turbine online generating any energy. And even if we were able to get anything for that spending, as far back as 2020 Senator Bob Smith was letting everyone know there was still no way we were going to meet the administrations goals in the first energy master plan:
With these failures known to all levels of government, the BPU and activists, from planning to execution, the simple fact remains that despite all of the finger pointing and press releases, we still haven’t seen anyone propose any real solutions to develop additional generation.
There is no push to build even one of the natural gas projects that were cancelled and ready to go that would produce more energy to help us meet demand. We aren’t seriously talking about nuclear. There is only a push double down on what has already failed and then blame a grid operator who can only work with the energy they have.
True leadership isn’t about blaming other people, its about coming up with soultions. And we could desperately use some real leadership now.
