We keep pointing out how our leaders are letting the clock tick and every day we aren’t building more energy is a day we aren’t taking steps to solve the problems we are facing. And when you don’t deal with the problems you are facing, you force someone else to take action because it will ultimately impact them.

We are starting to see that with larger businesses like this example with Amazon and Washington State:

What we are seeing now is that market forces are filling gaps where policy makers and regulators have failed. This is a recognition of how widespread the energy challenges really are. Now businesses are doing it themselves for themselves.

But this sets a very dangerous precedent because companies like Amazon have capital and the ability to build their own plants so they don’t have to rely on those poor decisions. Those who are market leaders and are capitalized are now making decisions so they don’t have to be impacted by terrible state and federal policy. But what about the rest of us?

Let’s be clear: failures of federal and State policy have created this playing field as a result of colossally bad energy policy. And unless there is a serious course correction, the problems will only continue to get worse. Because the bottom line is that the future always will require more power and we will not be able to conserve our way out of it.
