Before digging into the details of the long awaited Energy Master Plan, we decided to take a moment to focus on the “no regrets” slogan, which we aren’t sure how they can say with a straight face. Really? How can you have no regrets? This is what one Assembly member had to say in an op ed:
The state gave hundreds of millions to companies for a solution that was painted as a panacea and ended up knocking down more energy options than were built. At the same time these failures have burdened NJ policymakers with even more difficult challenges and choices to make going forward that will have a significant impact on families. But yes, tell us how there are no regrets each month when we go pay our bills.
But moving past the slogan for a minute to the policy problems. As we’ve seen temperatures begin to drop this week, we are only left with hope it doesn’t last and that we don’t get storms. Because we have to point out again that actual energy plan they released, which is supposed to ensure we have enough power, admitted that even in their best case scenario, there would not be enough power during a winter storm that knocks out power for several days (the maroon areas on the below chart):
So while the Governor may have no regrets, people that could be left in the dark will have plenty of cold regrets, among many other problems they will be facing. We hope the next Governor looks for serious solutions instead of empty slogans. The people of New Jersey are depending on it.
