We talk a lot about the Board of Public Utilities here at AENJ. That’s why it’s good to see that for the first time in close to two years, the BPU will have a full complement of Commissioners to help guide the Energy Policy for the state of NJ.

Prior to the new year, the Senate Judiciary committee cleared Joseph Coviello and last week, they voted out Emma Rebhorn. With the approval of these nominees, this will be one of the first times in recent memory that the board commissioners will add extensive industry experience in the public and private water space, which is a significant given the billions in water projects that are needed.

On the energy front, it’s an extremely critical time with rates and demand both rising while in state supply has continued to fall further behind. With the newly shaped board, the incoming administration will be faced with numerous challenges, many of which has been outlined in this Tri State Infrastructure News article:

We hope that the new board members and administration will face these challenges head one, welcoming an honest conversations about how to best balance the competing priorities so we can move past the problems that have put us in this very difficult place when it comes to energy. We look forward to participating in that conversation.
