After more delays than we can count at this point, the administration released their long awaited Energy Master Plan on the way out the door, which led to this headline that summed things up:
You may be asking yourself how can they stay the course with record high energy prices, demand rising, shortages of in state supply and more questions than answers? Don’t worry, so are we!
The plan once again fails to release costs, but it does try to say they can make something happen that still makes no sense:
Only in a world where the 2024 EMP is released Nov 2025 without irony could they say with a straight face that “the administration wanted to be sure the new master plan was responding to the world as it is, not as we want it to be” as they continue to try to get rid of the source that provides half of our energy.
Well let’s look further at their EMP as is, not how they want it to be. If you check closely the EMP is admitting that in the best case scenario, their plan will not provide enough power during a winter storm that knocks out power for several days (the maroon areas on the below chart):
How do you think that will go over with someone sitting in the dark for a week with small children at home? It is truly stunning that after all these years, they still don’t have a plan that produces enough energy to meet the growing demand.
This report is nothing more than nonsense on the way out the door. And unfortunately for ratepayers, even their nonsense doesn’t add up. Our hope is that the incoming administration goes back to drawing board to develop a plan that is feasible, will be more reliable and is affordable.
