Surprise. New Jersey is trying to move forward with a new energy project and some environmentalists are already coming out of the woodwork to oppose it.
And in the process they are trying to make it about anything but energy. Let’s see the measured language being used to discuss the nuclear legislation that was signed by the Governor in this review from Jeff Tittel that he says puts NJ on a “dangerous energy path”:
This is not just risky, it is reckless. It is, quite literally, environmental Russian roulette.
No. It’s actually the opposite. We are on a dangerous energy path specifically because of the actions taken by environmental advocates like the Sierra Club to stop any type of energy projects from moving forward. This recent opposition is really no surprise if you look back at history:
- Remember back in 2016 when the Sierra Club helped lead opposition to a solar farm that was to be constructed near Great Adventure even taking it to court with a lawsuit?
- Or how about in 2018 when the Sierra Club helped groups oppose Fisherman’s Wind Farm because it “could end up hurting OUR ability to get to OUR goal.”
So is it any surprise that now in 2026 the same voices that have opposed all of these other energy sources because of their own self interests are coming out to oppose the latest proposed energy source in nuclear?
In the end it just seems that for many environmental advocates, when it comes to producing any sort of energy the response becomes “whatever it is we are against it.” Especially if it’s not exactly how, when, where and why they want it. But that’s not the way things work.
