We’ve got some serious word games going on in the energy space and it’s past time we stop the talk. Between 2004 and 2016, we acted more and talked less. In the process, New Jersey reduced its reliance on importing electricity from the PJM grid, eventually becoming a net exporter:
We did that all while reducing emissions. But now the state of NJ has wasted more than a decade talking in circles and supporting projects that were never economically viable while abandoning proven successful. We’ve reversed the positive trend forcing NJ to become a net importer of energy. The impact over those last 10 years is clear:
Well would you look at that. Who could have imagined that when you generate less energy in state and have to buy from others, it costs you more. The simple fact is you can’t keep taking proven baseload energy sources like nuclear and natural gas offline while touting slogans like “all of the above” without really supporting them all.
